SC discharges contempt notice against Altaf Hussain 

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has accepted MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s unconditional apology and discharged the contempt notice against him.
Earlier during proceedings, MQM lawyer Farogh Naseem had tendered the unconditional apology on behalf of Altaf Hussain.
In the apology, Altaf said he had respected the judiciary his entire life and wanted to withdraw the remarks he had made.
The Supreme Court had issued a contempt of court notice to Altaf Hussain on December 14 stating that he had used objectionable language against the judiciary while addressing a public gathering. The MQM chief had been summoned to appear before the apex court on January 7 to explain his remarks.

Benazir murder case: Mark Siegel wants to record statement via video link 

ISLAMABAD: Key witness in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, American journalist Mark Siegel has refused to come to Pakistan due to security concerns.
According to a petition submitted by the FIA, Siegel wants to record his statement via video link. The petition has been accepted for hearing and notices have been issued.
Siegel had been directed by Anti-Terrorism Court hearing the Benazir Bhutto murder case to appear before it as a prosecution witness against former President and General (r) Pervez Musharraf.

Book on Ali Brothers by Khalid (Alig) Ali launched on Jauhar Day.

KARACHI, Jan 6 - Eminent speakers highlighted the struggle steered by Jauhar Brothers during the freedom movement at a ceremony organized at Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology in connection with the launch of book on “Ali Brothers”.
The function was presided over by Engr. Adil Usman, Member SSUET's Board of Governors and Vice-President Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association.
The voluminous book was written by Khalid Ali, a senior Aligarhian, now settled in the US’ the launching ceremony coincided the “Jauhar Day” which is observed on January 4 every year.



The author, the grandson of Maulana Mohammed Ali and Shaukat Ali Jauhar, acquired his education from Aligarh Muslim University where he was elected as Union’s General Secretary in 1945 and later also in the Provincial Muslim League Council. He also served as Attach of Pakistan in various countries.
After migration he served the Dawn in Karachi besides in the ISPR for some time.
He started his career as a journalist and worked in the Associated Press of India and later Dawn Delhi and London.
In his address Khalid Ali described Ali Brothers as shining stars of the hopes of  Muslims of South Asia and their political acumen and talent was also mentioned by Quaiz-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatama Gandhi.
He said the struggled waged by Ali Brothers for the establishment of a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia had been a ray of hope and inspiration in the darkness.

Khalid Ali said that their greatness was a profound and unparallel example of love for the cause of Muslims and they were of the firm conviction to have an independent country where they had two yards of land to live.
In his speech on the occasion Prof Shamim Akhtar said the book is not only a biography but an authentic piece of the history of sub-continent. He said the book has fully covered the life and achievements of Ali Brothers, the prevailing conditions and trends.
Prof Afsar Sultana described the book as a most important and valuable contribution highlighting the personalities of Jauhars  and their achievements and discussed the condition of Muslims in India at that time as well as events taking place during independence movement.




Another eminent speaker Azad Bin Hyder said that Khalid Ali has done a great favour to the history of sub-continent by writing this book which can be described a master piece among the books written so far since 1947.
Prof Dr Waqar Ahmed Rizvi said the 16-chapters book thoroughly envelopes the lives and achievements of Ali Brothers, freedom movement and their struggle. He said Pandat Nehru admitted that he learnt politics from Mohammed Ali Jauhar.
On the occasion noted poet and Convener SSUET’s Literary and Cultural Forum, Khumar Farooqui presented poetic homage to Ali Brothers.
The ceremony was also address by two university students Mohammed Umer Khan and Umer Ali Kazmi.






 Shahrukh Jatoi shot Shahzaib with father’s pistol, confesses arrested Siraj Talpur

KARACHI: Siraj Talpur, a key co-accused in Shahzaib killing case, has confessed in police custody that Shahrukh Jatoi shot Shahzaib with father’s pistol while police have issued Red-Warrant for arrest of main accused Shahrukh Jatoi, SAMAA reported on Sunday.

According to police sources, following Suprem Court’s orders, many raids were conducted across the province for arrest of nominated accused in Shahziab killing case.

Police arrested nominated accused Nawab Siraj Talpur (a key co-accused of Shahzaib killing), Nawab Imdad Talpur, Sajjad Talpur, Nawab Imdad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were arrested from Dadu.

Few other accused Saddaruddin, Sohrab Khan and Sain Dino Khaskheli were arrested during police raids in Hyderabad.

The police are interrogating key accused Siraj Talpur. He informed during interrogation to police that Shahrukh Jatoi fired at Shahzaib with his father’s pistol.

Murdered Shahzaib quarreled with cook, at flat, and he informed Shahrukh Jatoi on phone about his fight with Shahzaib; at that time, Shahrukh Jatoi was drunk and he rushed towards flat in same condition, Talpur added.

Despite my warning to avoid chase and shooting, Shahrukh Jatoi chased and opened fire at Shahzaib; he used his father’s 9mm pistol for firing, informed Siraj Talpur.

Police have sealed properties of Nawab Imdad Talpur in Citizen Colony and Qasimabad. Police have also sealed three bungalows of Sikandar Jatoi and seized two Parado vehicles from Moro and Kandhkot.

Karachi police also conducted raids and arrested few accused including Arif Lund, Waqra Lund and Abdul Khaliq (father of Azhar Khaliq and Mazhar Khali), who escaped with Sharukh Jatoi to Dubai.

According to DIG South, Shahid Hayat, Red-warrant has been issued for arrest of Shahrukh Jatoi. Darakhshan Police Station’s SHO Malik Salim, SIO Salim and Duty Officer Muhammad Yasin have been suspended while DSP Wasim Khawaja transferred for ignorance in the case
