Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to address nation tonight


ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will address the nation tonight at 9:30PM, Geo News reported.
This will be the prime minister's farewell address to the nation, as the National Assembly will stand dissolved at midnight tonight (Saturday).
Until a caretaker prime minister is selected, PM Ashraf will remain prime minister even after the National Assembly has been dissolved.
PM summons all chief ministers to Islamabad
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has summoned the chief ministers of all four provinces in Islamabad today (Satuday).
The prime minister will hold meetings with the chief ministers to deliberate on holding general elections for National and Provincial Assemblies on the same date.

Kohistan bus accident leaves 23 security men dead

PESHAWAR: At least 23 security men were killed on Saturday when their bus plunged into a ravine on the main Pakistan-China highway near Samarnala in the mountainous northern region, officials said.
"According to initial information, 23 security men died in a road accident when their bus plunged into a ravine on the Karakoram Highway," said a senior military official.
The military said 27 people were on board the bus including 25 soldiers heading home on leave and a civilian driver and cleaner. The soldiers belonged to a battalion of the Northern Light Infantry (NLI) and were deployed to the picturesque Swat valley, which was cleared of Taliban militants in 2009.
DPO said that the bodies have been shifted to Rural Health Center Shatyal, while for shifting the five injured to Rawalpindi a helicopter has been called for.

ATC adjourns Shahzeb case till monday over reservations regarding prosecutor


KARACHI : The Anti Terrorism court on Saturday adjourned hearing of the Shahzeb Khan murder case until Monday, owing to reservations of the plaintiff DSP Orangzaib regarding the prosecutor in the case, Geo News reported.
Why the reservations :
Earlier, the government had replaced the special public prosecutor with a man who belonged to the native town of the main accused's father, Sikander Jatoi.
Geo News senior reporter Afzal Nadeem Dogar adds that Special Public Prosecutor Shahid Arain was asked to leave the charge forthwith. Mr Arain had been directed to hand over all files and records to the newly appointed prosecutor Muzaffar Solangi.

The IO said that prosecutor’s link to the accused and his access to sensitive record could undermine the trial.

Rangers’ targeted operation in Taisar Town, 13 arrested


KARACHI : Rangers conducted an operation in Taiser town area of Karachi, resulting in the arrest of 13 alleged terrorists, Geo News reported.
Rangers had initially detained more than 60 suspects after a targeted operation in Taiser town while also seizing a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, hand grenades and tennis ball bombs.

Rangers’ sources add, that the search operation was launched in the wee hours of Saturday morning, resulting in the seizure of 48 different types of weapons. Besides the tennis ball bombs, locally made hand grenades and explosives were also recovered.

 Egypt’s Mursi to visit Pakistan on March 18


 ISLAMABAD: Egypt President Dr Muhammad Mursi is arriving in Pakistan on a one-day state visit on Monday, SAMAA reports.

The Egyptian president will meet his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari and other top officials during his short stay in Islamabad.

Dr. Mursi is coming to Pakistan along with his delegation at the invitation of President Zardari. He will be presented a guard of honor at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Zardari will host a lunch for the visiting President before holding a one-on-one meeting to discuss the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Egypt.
