Asghar Khan case short order
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday asked the federal government to investigate the distribution of money among politicians during the 1990 general elections.
In a short order on Friday, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the government to remove political cells from all the agencies, a private television channel reported.
The court said that the money given to politicians should be taken back along with interest.
The Supreme Court said that action should be taken against former army chief Aslam Beg and ex-intelligence chief General Assad Durrani. He said that actions of Gen Beg and Gen Durrani damaged the reputation of army and ISI.
The court also ordered initiating action against Younus Habib.
The short verdict was penned by Chief Justice Chaudhry.
The apex court delivered it order after hearing Attorney General of Pakistan and defence officials.
Speaking to reporters outside the apex court, Air Marshal (reted) Asghar Khan welcomed the court's decision, terming it correct.
Khan's counsel Ikram Raja said that a larger bench could be formed later if the government did not implement the order.
Earlier, a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, resumed hearing of the petition filed by Air Martial (retd) Asghar Khan pertaining to allegations against the Inter Services Intelligence of distributing money among politicians before general elections of 1990.
