Karachi: Aggravated traders call on protest against extortion





KARACHI: After countless killings and restlessness among the industrialists and traders of the economic hub of the country, All Karachi Traders association has called on a protest movement against the extortion mafia, reported Aaj news.
Demanding the government to take immediate steps for protection from extortionists, the traders recorded their protest by hosting black flags on their shops and stores.
Siraj Kassem Teli, the leader of Karachi businessmen and industrialists said that the situation has come to a pass where the terrorists and criminal elements of the gang war had started killing businessmen and shopkeepers who refused to pay the extortion money. The extortion money has raised to some 1 billion rupees.
He also announced that the traders will observe a complete shutter down on November 3 if they were not given the security.
All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI) President Atiq Mir said that the situation has come to this end because no action was being taken against the extortion mafia despite protests by traders and the business community.
If still the government will not take our concerns seriously Business community in Karachi as well as other major cities of Sindh will enforced to go on a complete shutter-down strike across the country on November 10, 2012.
According to the reports, over 1,800 people have been killed in Karachi since the beginning of this year.
